Compatibility notes
Boots to the desktop and the Welcome dialog at 640x480 with 256 colours; the clock advances; the boot log runs to the end. Needs `HIMEM.SYS` and `EMM386.EXE /UMB` (the `/T=` swap option hung until 2026-10-16). Display drivers checked: 640x480 256-colour (PEGC), 640x400 256-colour (Windows shows its own display-settings error dialog) and 640x400 16-colour (`EGCN4.DRV`), all drawing correctly since 2026-10-20. Black desktop fixed 2026-10-20 (CPU `LFS`/`LGS` fix). The Start menu, **Run**, Explorer and Notepad were used on 2026-11-02 and 2026-11-03: a 1.44 MB floppy in drive B: lists and opens its files, and a file copied onto it is intact in the image afterwards. A 720 KB floppy image hangs Windows on its first access when `NECCDM.SYS` is loaded in `CONFIG.SYS`: IOS then runs every drive in MS-DOS compatibility mode and deadlocks on the BIOS's 720 KB path; a real Xe10 with the same image does the same. Adding `NECCDM.SYS` under `[SafeList]` in `C:\WINDOWS\IOS.INI` fixes it on the core and on the Xe10 (README, Windows 95). **Restart the computer** and **Shut down > MS-DOS mode** followed by `exit` return to the desktop (black screen fixed 2026-11-02); **Shut down the computer** reaches the safe-to-turn-off screen. The startup sound plays at the correct speed (checked against the WAV file with a recording, 2026-11-05).

Pictures (1)

Pictures are shown at the 4:3 shape of the monitor the PC-98 drove (a 640×400 frame has tall pixels, 5:6). Select one to open the viewer; its "Native pixels" switch shows the captured frame pixel for pixel instead. Keys: arrows step, 0 fits, 1 to 3 zoom in whole steps, N switches native pixels, Esc closes.

Video clip

Audio: core (HDMI), A/V corrected 285.1 ms

30 s, recorded from the HDMI output (the MiSTer scaler shows the picture at 4:3). The player shows a web copy (H.264 4:2:0, AAC, cropped to the 4:3 picture). The master is H.264 4:4:4 at 1920×1080 with FLAC audio, which most browsers cannot play. Download the master (MKV, 2 MB)
